
During the third month of his secondment, Tomáš Tesař underwent a thorough training on the spray booth operation in order to start developing new plasma sprayed TBC‑relevant coatings, using TI AG’s state‑of‑the‑art Axial III plasma torch. By using non‑conventional and development‑stage feedstocks, Tomáš is going to probe a matrix of deposition parameters in order to identify the combinations leading to potentially interesting coating microstructures.
Tomáš is going to use on‑premise analytic techniques including metallography and scanning electron microscopy, as well as x‑ray diffraction at his sending institution (IPP) in order to provide comprehensive structural and compositional analyses to guide the iterative process of optimization of the deposition conditions.
By utilizing his current knowledge, together with the newly acquired practices at TI AG, Tomáš will be able to synthesize the best procedures from both academia and industry to foster his analytical and evaluation techniques and to share them with his fellows.
