9-month training at AGC Interpane started!

Kamalan Mosas, an ERA Talent researcher from FunGlass at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín, has embarked on a nine-month training program at AGC Interpane in Lauenförde, Germany, starting in January 2025. His research will be conducted at the "Entwicklungs- und Beratungsgesellschaft" division, which has evolved from Interpane's original research center, into AGC Europe's state-of-the-art demonstration and development hub for vacuum coating equipment, following the AGC acquisition.

AGC Interpane, established in 1971 in Lauenförde, Germany, has grown into one of Europe's premier glass manufacturers. The company has built its reputation on developing advanced functional glazing products. Their strategic vision encompasses strengthening their leadership in glass coating technology, while expanding their industrial capabilities to introduce innovative glass functionalities across construction, solar energy, and automotive sectors.

During his secondment, Mosas will engage in collaborative research with AGC coating process engineers Dr. Omar Benzine, Dr. Rebeca Correia and other specialists across both, German and Belgian facilities, focusing on development of next-generation, sustainable coating solutions. His primary research objective is to engineer a versatile, protective top layer, applicable to various optical coatings. These coatings optimize light behavior, reduce glare, enhance contrast, and improve overall optical performance. Developed topcoat layer enhances critical mechanical properties, including hardness, scratch and wear resistance, adhesion, and environmental durability.

The program also encompasses comprehensive training in optical design and simulation methodologies, essential tools in modern optical coating. Mosas will become proficient in specialized optical design software, enabling him to support customers with complex coating challenges through precise modeling and optimization of coating stack designs.

Furthermore, his training will cover various optical and mechanical characterization techniques, vital to the glass and optics industry, including testing under key ISO standards. In April, the program will extend to the AGC Technovation Center in Belgium, where Mosas will undertake two weeks of specialized training. This phase will focus on crucial industry skills, including data awareness and digitalization, project management principles, technology scouting, and the fundamentals of the intellectual property management.
