This September, Dr. Rajesh Mundotia, researcher at FunGlass, Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín, began an exciting secondment at AGC Interpane in Lauenförde, Germany. Hosted at the Entwicklungs- und Beratungsgesellschaft division, a state-of-the-art hub for vacuum coating equipment and advanced coatings, Dr. Mundotia is working under the guidance of Dr. Rebeca Falcao and Dr. Omar Benzine.

His main focus is the integration of HiPIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) technology into industrial roll-to-roll coaters equipped with PVD and PECVD systems. This approach is designed to unlock new levels of coating performance, delivering stronger adhesion to textile fibers, higher density, smoother and more uniform layers, and precise control of microstructures.

In addition to advancing research, this secondment offers hands-on industrial experience that bridges academic knowledge with practical applications. Dr. Mundotia’s program includes comprehensive training in mechanical characterization and durability testing, covering ISO-standard methods such as abrasion, washing, and corrosion tests. These activities will provide valuable insights into how advanced coatings perform under real-world conditions and how they can be optimized for specific applications. By combining innovative deposition technologies with rigorous testing and validation, this collaboration aims to accelerate the development of high-performance coatings tailored for industrial needs.
